Eternal Work

Parenting is hard work. Toddlers prove that! Potty training reinforces it!
Needless to say, potty training is NOT going well. Tyler may go to college in a diaper.

After a pretty rough week filled with parenting failures…and kid failures (which feel like parenting failures), I found myself reading through some emails I wrote this year to Tyler’s BSF teachers. They are fabulous and are doing an eternal work. I try to send them encouraging notes every now and then telling them things Tyler says after class. I hope they know how much they are appreciated.

Here are a couple of things that really encouraged me tonight.

Dec. 15, 2011

On the way to BSF yesterday, Tyler told me “both Mommy and Tyler are going to study the Bible and it’s true”. Then he told me his schedule. “First we play, then we have our Bible study, then we sing songs, then we have snack, then quiet time then we play some more” (I probably got the order wrong.) I thought it was so cute that he got all the main things in there though. I asked him what he did at quiet time and he said “I’m quiet…and I think about the Bible”.

Tyler had a great morning. He came home blowing that trumpet. I asked him what he learned and he said “hmm… It wasn’t about Paul”.:) I asked him about the trumpet and he said “Jesus is coming back”.

Then I tried to prompt him. “Will everyone be happy?” At first he said “yes” then he backtracked and said “some will be sad. ” Then he added “But I will be happy” I said “that’s great Tyler.” And I talked briefly with him about how to be happy when Jesus returns. Then he said “I’ll be happy because I have a trumpet.” Ha.. He isn’t there yet but I see a
softening in his heart and he’s listening and learning.

And just 2 days ago:

Feb. 1, 2012- Today’s story by Tyler

“I had a story that someone fell out of the window. And he was dead and his name was Euchus.”
I corrected his pronunciation of Eutychus’ name then Tyler continued…
” And God’s power got him back to alive.”

I love that he said “God’s power” rather than “Paul”. Praise the Lord!!

So thankful for His power…it gives me strength to face each new day….especially when that day involves potty training!

Beautiful stories! I love hearing kids talk about the Bible and God. Isabel asks me all day long if God made something. Best one though was when she asked me if God brought us together. Hard not to get teary eyed sometimes watching them grow up.

Oh and they appreciate your emails. I know I would as a former teacher.
